Big Read Events Announced

Big Read Cochran will be holding free, public events throughout the month of April.  These include:

  • April 2, 6 p.m. – The Big Read Kickoff Ceremony: “The World in Conflict” Juried Art Exhibition Opening at Peacock Gallery in Russell Hall at Middle Georgia College;
  • April 4 and 5, 6-8 p.m. – “Tell It One More Time: Redemptive Storytelling” creative writing workshops and book discussions at the Tessie W. Norris Library;
  • April 9 – Keynote Address by Michael Sallah, Pulitzer-Prize-winning author of Tiger Force: A True Story of Men and War (time and location TBA);
  • April 10, 6:30 p.m. – Good Morning, Vietnam film showing and discussion in Russell Hall at MGC;
  • April 11, 5-7 p.m. – MGC Learning Communities Speaker Andrew Wiest, author of Vietnam’s Forgotten Army (location TBA);
  • April 17, 2-7 p.m. – MGC International Festival and Spring Fling on the MGC campus;
  • April 18, 6:30 p.m. – The Deer Hunter film showing and discussion in Russell Hall at MGC.

Free copies of our chosen text, Tim O’Brien’s The Things They Carried, will be distributed at major events.  Additional small group discussions of the book are also planned at various locations, among them:

  • April 11, 3-4:30 p.m. – MGC Book Club Discussion (location TBA);
  • April 24, 6:30 p.m. – Friends of the Library Book Discussion and tribute to “Doc” Harry Bowman at the Tessie W. Norris Library.
